Resolution (EPI-PPI) Guide
What EPI, PPI and hooks mean, and how to choose the right Resolution design file.
Resolution designs are prepared for a particular weaving set-up. Each one lists its EPI, PPI and hooks, so you can pick the file that matches your loom.
EPI — ends per inch
The number of warp threads in one inch of fabric width.
PPI — picks per inch
The number of weft threads (picks) in one inch of fabric length.
Hooks
The number of hooks on the jacquard the design is drawn for, for example 400, 480 or 1200 hooks.
Choosing a file
- Match the EPI-PPI pair to your fabric construction (for example 100-60 or 108-56).
- Check the hooks count against your jacquard.
- BMP versions keep every pixel exactly as drawn; JPG versions are lighter and suit printing and reference work.
